Hi! I’m Kent Chapline, a highly-experienced communications professional in Dallas/Fort Worth. I’m currently freelancing on some digital media projects.

I’m always interested in talking about new opportunities. My contact information is below.

You can click here for my resume, but here’s a brief rundown of my career:

Until March 2019, I managed the team that runs kshb.com, the news site for the Scripps-owned NBC TV station in Kansas City.

Before that I taught journalism at Texas Christian University and advised TCU 360, the school’s award-winning student media operation. While at TCU, my partner and I won a Knight Foundation Prototype Grant.

Before I started teaching I launched and managed cbsdfw.com, the site for all of the CBS-owned TV and radio stations in Dallas-Fort Worth. And prior to that I produced local TV news in Dallas-Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, and El Paso.

On the side, I co-founded ONA Dallas/Fort Worth and I helped run #wjchat, a much-loved (and sadly, now defunct) weekly Twitter chat for digital journalists. I’ve also been an invited presenter & panelist at many events put on by SPJ and other local/regional journalism organizations.

I’ve also done some freelance journalism work.

Click here for a few samples of my work.

In my personal life, I’m married to an outstanding teacher. We’re the parents of two amazing neurodiverse young adults. I’m a solidly mediocre but dedicated bass guitarist, I love Mexico City, and I’m studying Spanish so I’m not completely helpless when I go there.
